Rapel para Todos (Rapel for All) is an emblematic project whose implementation began in 2019, after 4 years of partnering with the Lago Rapel Nautical Foundation. The Rapel Reservoir is one of the most frequented tourist sites in Central Chile. However, local inhabitants of the Las Cabras, Litueche and La Estrella communities can seldom access and enjoy the reservoir.
The project seeks to provide access to the lake to all students from municipal establishments in these communities. Its secondary focus is for students to get to know the area and the history of the Rapel power plant as well as learn about sustainability and environmental concepts as part of educational outings aboard the Tridente trimaran. This vessel, frequently used for tourism activities on the reservoir, is rarely accessible to the local community.
Our Company wishes to offer equal opportunities to residents and contribute to the community´s social and cultural development by providing access to the reservoir to people who usually cannot do so. The project also seeks to teach interesting concepts about the history of the Rapel power plant and its importance in the national energy system, sustainability, and environment.
In 2019, almost 1,000 students participated in the initiative. However, because of the COVID 19 health contingency, the trips were voluntarily suspended in 2020 to avoid any risks of contagion and others, a situation that will be maintained until it is safe enough to re-take the project.
To contribute to the development of the area, we are also creating plans for the Rapel Nautical School aimed at increasing and maturing the Rapel for All project which will put a stronger emphasis on student education and training, on issues such as sustainability and climate change, as well as gender leadership and equity, to mention only a few.
