The Quintero Competition-based Funds project is an initiative whose main objective is to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Quintero area, financing different initiatives and projects that focus on the promotion and implementation of proposals that lead to observable and sustainable benefits for the community and its organizations, according to technical and social parameters.
Initially driven by GNL Quintero, and since 2016 also with the collaboration of Enel Generación Chile, in 2020, after several years of successful processes, both companies decided to change the way the program and the call were carried out and make it a more coherent application, using modern media and formats and incorporating a new line of financing focused on tourism and gastronomic ventures affected by the COVID 19 pandemic contingency. The idea of the project was to mitigate the effects of this health crisis and contribute to the revival of the sector incorporating a new finance line, initiatives that also implemented measures which permitted participants to operate in the context of the pandemic.
The process was undertaken remotely avoiding people getting together in these difficult times and the purchasing and accounting stages were also done electronically, helping the organizations to implement the project from the moment of their application to the time they were asked to file their expense claims.
The 2020 call received 72 project applications: 32 from social and territorial organizations, 17 from entrepreneurs and 13 under the title of excellence, aimed at outstanding talents from the area. Altogether, 30 projects were selected: 12 presented by entrepreneurs, 10 by social organizations and 8 were chosen from the excellence area, directly reaching more than 100 people.
Since it was first implemented, the Quintero Competition-based Funds has made it possible for more than 17,000 people to access the benefits associated with the awarded resources.
