To get communities involved in the fair energy transition and considering the explosive boom in families living in informal settlements, Enel Distribución Chile has launched the Energy Safety in Informal Settlements project to ensure access to affordable, safe, and sustainable energy. In 2021, 24,956 people living in informal settlements had equal access to power while improving their quality of life thanks to 1,239 new electrical connections.

Enel Distribución Chile has implemented different actions to promote dialogue with families to strengthen development by codesigning projects and community social programs. Based on the above, and in collaborative alliance with Fundación TECHO Chile through the "Techo Común" project, we have built two sustainable community headquarters where residents can come together and promote sustainable community development. For further growth of community skills, a Spanish course was also available for Haitian immigrants to bridge the language gap, and a Micro-Entrepreneurship Program aimed at empowering and promoting economic independence among communities.

Finally, to guarantee the successful execution of the project, practical workshops were held alongside Fundación Litro de Luz to develop their skills for creating solar luminary projects using recycled and other low-cost materials. The sustainable solar infrastructure helped light two social headquarters and community spaces in the Luna de Haití and Vicente Reyes settlements in Maipú. Each community headquarters included Wifi spots with free internet access, allowing up to 10 people to connect to the internet at any given time. The place went from total darkness to a lighted area in service of the community, at no cost to the local government, Enel Distribución Chile, or residents. The latter bolsters community organizations, public safety, and overall quality of life.
