Improving equal access to high-quality energy services helps bridge our country's energy gaps. For this reason, Enel Distribución Chile developed the Energy Inclusion program along with the EGEA Foundation, EBP, Energía para Todos, the PE Network, Mimasoft, and the Municipal Government of Recoleta. The project aims to identify opportunities and implement actions to improve homes' energy conditions in the Metropolitan Region.
This project aims to integrate communities in our concession area along the path towards a fair energy transition and contribute equal access to high-quality services. The latter is possible thanks to an energy poverty diagnosis that identifies material improvements, such as the thermal reconditioning of homes, appliance upgrades, normalization of hazardous electrical connections, and the renovation of heating systems to allow for efficient energy use. Additionally, we implemented workshops on energy efficiency and renewable energies to orient people around responsible and efficient electricity consumption. In this way, the program aims to bridge the energy poverty gap among families and illnesses due to extreme cold or heat exposure, the use of contaminating heating sources, electrical hazards, and/or the stress associated with paying their electricity bills.
In its first version, in 2020, the Energy Inclusion project involved 70 families from the community of Renca, and in 2021, we reached 60 homes in Recoleta. With this, the project has helped increase energy efficiency and safety levels directly related to the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goal No. 7, "Affordable and Clean Energy," as one of the guiding pillars to improve communities' quality of life.
