The Los Buenos Aires windfarm is located 20 km from Los Angeles, a town in the Biobío Region. It is made up by 12 wind turbines and has been in operation since 2016.
The windfarm, which produces clean, renewable, and unconventional energy, has a 24-MW installed capacity generating more than 86 GWh per year, equivalent to the annual consumption requirements of approximately 40,000 households.
The economy of the area where the windfarm is situated focuses on agriculture, tourism, and industry. Its population totals 202,331 inhabitants whose multidimensional poverty indicator is 19.0% and their schooling rate is 10.5 years on average, which is below the normal for both the Region and the country.
The social environment of the windfarm is inhabited by some 700 people grouped into 4 neighbors´ associations. There is also a sports club in the vicinity of the plant. Enel undertakes collective and pertinent work with the organizations that reside in the area, which has permitted a smooth, permanent and reciprocal collaboration. The agreements reached with the residents are aimed at improving the development of organizations through the growth of skills and abilities in productive matters; infrastructure that permits to create enterprises at a community level, as well as improving the living conditions of local families.
Currently, the Vientos del Biobío Cultural and Recreational Center is under the final construction stages and, once completed, will be donated to be managed and operated by a Corporation composed of the Bellavista Neighbors´ Association and the local sports club. This Center is expected to promote culture, sports and should also help to boost local entrepreneurship and group development.
