Innovability is a concept that brings together innovation and sustainability to develop projects that should have an innovative and sustainable impact on the community. Following this vision, the Company has been implementing initiatives that involve photovoltaic generation systems and replace conventional, older public lights with more efficient ones, in places defined together with local stakeholders. The implementation of such projects has allowed the Company to illuminate currently dark areas and optimize the community´s energy consumption promoting urban development, recovering public spaces and, consequently, helping to improve people´s life quality contributing decisively to Enel's commitment to the country's energy transition by leading communities along on this journey.
During its development, in a participatory process with the San Pedro community in Quillota, the Company and the stakeholders identified certain points that should be intervened using diverse measures: public lighting with autonomous LED technology, such as solar posts; replacing conventional, indoor, and outdoor lights by LED technology, and installing PV generation system in different highly frequented places such as the fire station and diverse public-use offices. Since 2018, more than 10 of the town´s areas have been improved using solar technology and replacing more than 120 lights.
Innovability has achieved, neyond the impact in energy terms, several other objectives such as the recovery of public spaces, facilitating their use by people of different ages, especially children, and it has also made such places safter for those who travel through the areas that previously were not lit or had poor lighting, and where accidents and crime took place on a daily basis. All the above was achieved through efficient, technological, and environmentally friendly solutions.
As a result of the health contingency caused by the COVID19 pandemic, the projects implemented in in 2019 and early 2020 could only start during the latter part of the year, so the completion of all the planned projects will take place recently in the first half of 2021.
