The Pehuén Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1992 along with the construction of the Pangue Hydroelectric Plant, in order to promote an improvement in the living conditions of the Pehuenche communities in terms of education, healthcare, housing and income.
Every initiative developed by the Foundation is based on respect for and promotion of the aspects inherent to their cultural tradition, considering the Pehuenche identity as an essential element within the Foundation’s management. This is fostered by a work model that considers the active participation of the communities in decisions and agreements.
The Pehuén Foundation operates upon the following principles:
- Autonomous identification and application of projects.
- Community participation in the decision-making process.
- Integral action through multi-sector projects.
