Selection of "Flag Species" 2022
Within the framework of the "Nature in Our Plants" Program, organized by the Environment area of HSEQ Enel Green Power & Thermal Generation Chile, during March 2022 the second edition of the "Flagship Species Selection" initiative was developed, where exponents of the flora and fauna are chosen that represent the biodiversity associated with our facilities.
With this initiative we seek to reflect that our activities are not separated from nature, on the contrary, we are inserted in it and we must encourage this interaction to be positive.
The flagship species that accompanied us during the first year were the culpeo fox and the cypress of the mountain range, who now give their place to the new ambassadors: the toad of the Pehuenche pass and the Araucaria.
We have developed this logo to be used in different dissemination activities and we will soon make available wallpapers with this design.
Some characteristics of our ambassadors:
- Paso Pehuenche Toad (Alsodes pehuenche) is a native species, micro-endemic to Paso Pehuenche in the Maule mountain range. Its conservation status is Critically Endangered. Its associated plant is the Los Cóndores Hydroelectric Plant.
- Araucaria (Araucaria araucana), is a native species that is distributed between El Biobío and Los Lagos. It is classified "Endangered" in the Nahuelbuta mountain range and "Vulnerable" in the Andes mountain range; it also holds the category of Natural Monument. Its associated plant is the Ralco Hydroelectric Power Plant.
