Chile’s capital city, Santiago, in the electrification of public transport has identified a crucial element in the progress towards the decarbonization of the city. In 2018, thanks to the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT) and an alliance between Enel X, Metbus and BYD, the first 100 electric buses were incorporated into Santiago's public transportation network. These vehicles include innovative technology for passenger comfort, offering WIFI connection service, cell phone chargers and air conditioning. They have no impact in terms of polluting emissions and are also a lower cost alternative in operational terms, costing 60% less when compared to conventional diesel buses.
