The first steps towards electric mobility are already taking place in our country thanks to three large companies that believe in this important energy project: BYD, Metbus, and Enel
"It is not a pilot project, it is simply the first stage of introducing electric buses into the Transantiago system," said Simone Tripepi, Enel Distribution's market manager, regarding the upcoming incorporation of BYD buses, which will be added to the 516 line.
This is the beginning of a sustainable renewal plan for the transport system, which in this first stage includes two units which will expand the fleet to 90 buses during its second phase.
The efficiency of electric motors becomes one of the main advantages of this type of transport, because they convert 60% of the energy into motion, while buses that use petroleum-based fuels lose 85% of their energy in heat.
People also benefit from electro-mobility, as it generates important improvements in the quality of life and considerably reduces the noise pollution caused by buses.
The transformation towards electric mobility also includes new projects, such as Enel’s investment to increase the number of available ev-charging stations, reaching a total of 20 in Santiago by the end of this year.
