  • Cemin Holding will migrate all of its operations to renewable energy through the contract. The agreement includes a six-year green-certified energy supply for its operations in Catemu, in the Valparaíso Region, and Dos Amigos, in the Atacama Region.

Renewable energy, such as wind, solar, geothermal, and hydro, is at the core of this new contract, which will be generated at Enel's different power plants and be certified by an independent body.

Some 33.0 GWh per year of this energy will go directly to supply the Minera Catemu operations, located in the Catemu district in the Valparaíso Region, and 2.0 GWh will provide the facilities of Minera Dos Amigos, in the Vallenar district, in the Atacama Region. As of 1st February 2025, 7 GWh per year of energy will supply the Pullalli plant and mine located in the La Ligua district, Valparaíso Region.

"Our commitment is to support our customers in achieving Net Zero emissions by providing them with 100% renewable energy. Through this type of contract, our customers can meet their strategic objectives of having increasingly sustainable and friendlier operations to their community and the environment," said Alfredo Hott, Enel Generación's Trading and Commercialization Manager.

Enel is Chile's largest renewable energy generator with a portfolio of technologies including wind, photovoltaic, hydro, and geothermal.

The 100% renewable energy certificate is the latest feature to be added to the partnership in which Enel first began implementing electric energy at the Catemu and Dos Amigos sites in May 2022 for an estimated annual power supply of 42 GWh.

According to Mauricio Alamo, executive president of Cemin Holding Minero, "we have been working on introducing clean energy for several years, and this contract shows our commitment by extending our green efforts to all of our operations and throughout the organization. As a company, we have set ourselves the goal of driving the push towards a new mining industry that is based on honest relationships that improve people's quality of life. By making our operations efficient and environmentally friendly, we are going in the right direction and keeping in line with the national and global energy goals."

Signing this contract strengthens the strategic and long-term relationship between the two companies and, in turn, generates added value for Enel. This way, Cemin Holding Minero is moving towards renewable energy use in its operations.

The two companies agree that this new contract will enable Cemin to reduce its CO2 emissions by 13,500 tonnes per year, equivalent to planting some 220,000 trees.
