On June 1, President Gabriel Boric announced the Executive decision to administratively eliminate the winter limit on electricity tariffs for regulated customers, as defined by the authorities.
The Ministry of Energy enacts tariffs, and officially this measure was to become effective retroactively, as of 2024, once the current tariff process is currently underway concluded and, among other things, established the collection of tariffs from customers.
In this scenario, and based on discussions with the Ministry of Energy, member companies of Empresas Eléctricas AG. agreed to the early implementation of this measure announced by the Executive from the bills issued during the first half of July so its application may begin during the coming months of 2023. This term determines the time required to adjust each company's commercial platforms and billing cycles.
Beyond this measure's implementation, long-term work on energy efficiency promoting rational energy use must come with it.
As an industry, this discussion on the winter limit is symptomatic of the need to reform the electricity distribution regulation, given the challenges of improving service quality and bringing the energy transition to Chilean families.
We have expressed our willingness to work with the Ministry of Energy, connect the energy transition with citizens, and allow them to decide on their energy consumption with flexibility and autonomy.
