Enel Distribución and Universidad Santo Tomás saw another 37 students graduate from their jointly-run Home Electrical Installer program, which aims to open up job opportunities for future professionals that work in the energy transition field.
At the graduation ceremony, Enel Distribución's general manager, Víctor Tavera, stressed that students had demonstrated outstanding commitment to the training process. They showed great potential for improving their employability, creating new businesses, and taking on leading roles in preventing electrical risks in households across the Metropolitan Region.
Meanwhile, Enel Chile's Sustainability and Community Relations Manager Antonella Pellegrini spoke of the importance of initiatives such as this that help set a high professional standard and ensure that the electrification process is carried out safely.
"The energy transition requires professionals that have been properly trained to deal with the challenges that this process entails and will lead to new job opportunities. This program is part of a series of initiatives that Enel is developing throughout Chile to encourage young people to enter and remain in the energy workforce, which are aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth," Pellegrini said.
The "Training of Home Electrical Installers" program began as a pilot scheme in 2020 in association with INFOCAP and provides a 100% scholarship to 20 students from different districts of the Metropolitan Region. In 2021, Enel formed a partnership with the Universidad Santo Tomás to provide scholarships to 40 people from the Santiago districts of Estación Central, Independencia, Lo Prado, Quinta Normal and Cerro Navia. To date, 57 people have received class D certification from the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels.
Initiatives like these demonstrate Enel Distribución Chile's contribution to decent work and economic growth through training and retraining programs and its overall commitment to a Just Energy Transition.
