Where to go from here: challenges and objectives
The Paris Agreement provided strong signals to investors regarding the challenges, credibility, and transparency of government commitments to fight climate change. The outcome was vital for three reasons: 1) Ambitious and widely supported objectives; 2) Strong awareness of the critical role played by climate finance; 3) Increased commitment to transparency on targets and actions taken.
Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) play a crucial role in providing companies and stakeholders with much-needed visibility into the future evolution of the investment environment. NDCs and corresponding Climate and Energy Action Plans developed by governments are published transparently by the UN for review by local and global stakeholders, including private sector investors. Governments must develop and maintain ambitious, transparent, comprehensive, and reliable plans that clearly state their objectives and the policies and instruments designed to achieve them.
Enel's Roadmap in Chile
On April 19, 2022, Enel Chile and energiE presented the "Roadmap for the Energy Transition in Chile." The project aims to develop a study with a medium (2030) and long-term (2050) vision to quantify both the costs and economic benefits of accelerating the energy transition process. This undertaking contributes to public policy recommendations to meet the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) set by the country by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 at the latest.
The proposal includes three workshops and a series of working groups, with the participation of different stakeholders to contribute to the dialogue between various relevant actors to reduce GHG emissions, maintain the carbon-negative rating, and address climate change. The project will end with delivering a report to the authorities containing the possible energy transition scenarios resulting from the discussion, the quantification of costs and benefits, and a set of public policy recommendations necessary to promote action by all sectors.
Below, you can find the workshops carried out within the framework of this project:
