Pehuenche was incorporated under the corporate name of Empresa Eléctrica Pehuenche S.A. in 1986. At the end of the 2020 fiscal year, its capital stock reached ThCh $175,774,920, represented by 612,625,641 shares, which are publicly traded on the country's stock exchanges. Its main business is the generation, transport, distribution, and supply of electricity.
Pehuenche is an electricity generation company connected to the National Electric System (SEN). It owns and operates three hydroelectric plants located in the south-central region of the country in the hydrological basin of the Maule River, with an installed capacity of 699 MW.
Its first plant, Pehuenche, currently the second largest hydraulic generation plant in the Chilean electricity system, began to operate in 1991 with an installed capacity of 570 MW. At the end of 1993, the company started operations at its Curillinque plant with an installed capacity of 89 MW, and in August 1997, at its Loma Alta plant, with an installed capacity of 40 MW.
The company has a 220-kV transmission line between the Pehuenche plant and the Ancoa substation for the injection of its energy into the National Electric System (SEN) and its subsequent delivery to customers. Additionally, it has another 220-kV line between the Loma Alta plant and Pehuenche. The Curillin plant is connected at 154 kV to the Cipreses-Itahue circuit 2.
